Architecture: J2EE, JSP, XHTML, CSS, Java, STRUTS, ECMAScript
Facilities Database Redesign - SAIC Contract 2005-2006

The original design of the Facilities Database used Nested tabels and non-compliant HTML. After Joining SAIC in September of 2005 I was presented with the challenge of updateing the layout in order to make the website comply with US Government Section 508 Standards. The changes to the Layout include:

  • The page templates used the XHTML 1.0 Transitional DOCTYPE and passed W3C Validation.
  • Tables were removed as the foundation for the layout and replaced with a CSS2 layout (Tabels were still used when needed to display tabular data).
  • Three CSS Based page templates (One, Two and Three Column) were designed to fit in a 1024x768 minimum screen resolution.
  • The updated page structure allowed the code to be used as templates in a STRUTS Architecture.

The result was a Web Based application with a cleaner look and feel than that of it's predecessor.
The layout is completely CSS based and degrades in CSS2 compliant browsers.
